The community of Oildale Think along history as being connected to the city of Bakersfield. In fact, it is only located three and a half miles away from the center Down Town Bakersfield.
 
Officially Oildale is not a city at all it is considered a census-designated place this means that as far as the state government is concerned, it is part of Bakersfield however it operates quite separately from the rest of the city.
 
As of the most recent census that was conducted in 2010 the community of Oildale has a total population of 32,000 people. This is a drastic jump from the last sentence that was conducted in 2000 put the population at 27,000 people especially when consider that the city is not actually a city it all. 
 
A community of Oildale is located in The Kern County area. And has gone by a few names over the years it was called waits for a while, and then that name was changed to Northside until eventually, they settled on the name Oildale. One of the interesting things about the area is the fact that the famous U2 spy planes were built in a factory in Oildale. 
 
The city also had its first post office here in 1916 however because it never became a city the post office was eventually closed and moved to another area of Bakersfield.
