It’s not a very large increase because according to the census that was conducted in 2000 the city had a population of 21,500 people that is an increase of only 3500 people in 10 years.
However, the reason for this is the fact that the city of Wasco was named the Headquarters of the Tejon Indian tribe of California.
That's not on the name change population and though the change in the population stagnating.
The city was originally named after George Dewey who was a hero of the Spanish-American war.
This community, while it is not large, is an interesting place to spend time especially with its connections to its Native American roots.
